SANFORD
Sanford L.P is an American manufacturer and distributor of high-quality writing instruments based in Oak Brook, Illinois. It is primarily known for producing products under the Sharpie, Paper Mate, Prismacolor and Expo brand names.
Founded in 1857 by Frederick W. Redington and William H.Sanford, Jr as the Sanford Manufacturing Company, they specialized in producing and selling ink and glue products.
Sanford introduced the Sharpie brand marker in 1964, the first pen-style permanent marker designed to write on almost any surface.
Sanford was acquired by Newell Rubbermaid in 1992, and the Sharpie brand – through a variety of marketing campaigns, event sponsorship and celebrity endorsement – has grown to be synonymous with the word “marker” in North America.
Notable black marker products from Sanford brands include:
SANFORD DELUXE / SANFORD KING SIZE / SANFORD MAGNUM 44 / SANFORD LIQUID TIP / SHARPIE / SUPER SHARPIE / SHARPIE CHISEL TIP / SHARPIE MAGNUM / MR.SKETCH / EXPO DRY ERASE / PRISMACOLOR TWIN TIP / PAPERMATE W10 / PAPERMATE M15
