Headquartered in Herodsberg Germany the company was founded in Nuremberg in 1855 as Grossberger & Kurz. The company changed its name to Schwan-Stabilo in 1976 and Stabilo International in 2005.

Stabilo currently has manufacturing plants in Bayern, Germany and Johor Bahru, Malaysia
